Clear water from an Android phone speaker on Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Oppo, Vivo or Realme, and what the moisture detected warning means.

Before you start
- Turn the phone volume to max
- Take the case off
- Hold the speaker facing down

iPhone: switch off Silent mode first, or the browser plays nothing.
Android phones come in hundreds of models, but their speakers work the same way: a small membrane behind a mesh. Water stuck in that mesh makes the sound muffled, and a low tone pushes it out.
The method that works on every Android phone
- Take the case off and wipe the phone.
- Set the media volume to maximum. On Android, the side buttons may change the ringtone volume: press a volume button, then open the sliders and raise Media.
- Choose Water above and press Start.
- Hold the phone with the bottom speaker facing down for the whole cycle.
- Wipe the grille and repeat two or three times.
Many phones also use the earpiece as a second speaker. For muffled calls, run another cycle with the top of the phone facing down.
Samsung Galaxy
Galaxy phones show a “Moisture has been detected” warning and stop charging when the USB-C port is wet. Do not force it with a cable. Shake the phone gently with the port down, wipe it and let it air dry. Wireless charging may still work, but it is wiser to wait.
Most Galaxy S and many A-series models are IP67 or IP68 rated. That covers fresh water, not the sea or a pool, and seals weaken with age.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO
Many Xiaomi phones have a built-in Clear speaker option. On a lot of MIUI and HyperOS versions you will find it in Settings › Additional settings › Clear speaker. It plays a similar sound for about 30 seconds.
If your model does not have it, or if you want a longer cycle with pulses, use the Water mode here. Many Redmi and POCO models are only splash resistant, so after a real dunk, turn the phone off and let it dry before using it.
Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, Motorola, Infinix, Tecno
There is usually no built-in cleaning sound. The browser method above works the same. Check your exact model’s IP rating before assuming it survived a swim: many budget phones are only rated against splashes (IP52 to IP54).
After the beach, a pool or a drink
Salt, chlorine and sugar dry into a film on the mesh. Run Deep clean, then brush the grille gently with a dry, soft toothbrush. If the sound stays weak, read why a phone speaker sounds muffled.
Questions people ask
Does Samsung have a speaker cleaning mode?
Not as a standard setting. Galaxy phones detect moisture in the charging port, but they do not offer a sound to clean the speaker. The Water mode on this page fills that gap.
Where is Clear speaker on Xiaomi?
On many MIUI and HyperOS versions it sits in Settings, Additional settings, Clear speaker. Not every model has it. If yours does not, use the Water mode here.
My phone says moisture detected but it is dry. What now?
Wait 30 minutes with the port facing down, then try again. If the warning stays on a dry phone, restart it, and check the port for lint or dirt.
